BURGOS: KINGS AND BISHOPS UNDER THE SPECIAL PATRONAGE OF THE GREEN MAN

Burgos is a very lovely city. As Pilgrim you should spend an extra day in order to taste its charm. Also because a sansation is waiting for you. Next to the front portal of the Cathedral two times two men can be spotted: one king and one bishop, each with a counselor. One would agree: this is how a hierarchy looks like....Together these gentlemen constitute the highest authority. And then this. Above the statues.....indeed a Green Man. I still cannot believe it....

Obviously, the sensation is, that both king and bishop acknowledge, that the the Green Man is literally above them. Through it they confirm their belief in a pre-christian Godhead while being guided by him. The implications of ths image is limitless. All our paradigms are shattered. The Green Men were venerated not only by common people, but in the highest circles, as well! Our pastors/ministers didn't tell us anything about that....
